چکیده

We present an algorithm for SLAM on planar graphs. We assume that a robot moves from node to node on the graph using odometry to measure the distance between consecutive landmark observations. At each node, the robot follows a branch chosen at random, without reporting which branch it follows. A low-level process detects (with some uncertainty) the presence of landmarks, such as corners, branches, and bumps, but only triggers a binary flag for landmark detection (i.e., the robot is oblivious to the details or “appearance” of the landmark). Under uncertainties of the robot’s odometry, landmark detection, and the current landmark position of the robot, we present an E-M-based SLAM algorithm for two cases: (1) known, arbitrary topology with unknown edge lengths and (2) unknown topology, but restricted to “elementary” 1and 2-cycle graphs. In the latter case, the algorithm (flexibly and reversibly) closes loops and allows for dynamic environments (adding and deleting nodes).

Path Planning with Pose SLAM IRI Technical Report

The probabilistic belief networks that result from standard feature-based simultaneous localization and map building (SLAM) approaches cannot be directly used to plan trajectories. The reason is that they produce a sparse graph of landmark estimates and their probabilistic relations, which is of little value to find collision free paths for navigation. In contrast, we argue in this paper that P...

Designing Sparse Reliable Pose-Graph SLAM: A Graph-Theoretic Approach

In this paper, we aim to design sparse D-optimal (determinantoptimal) pose-graph SLAM problems through the synthesis of sparse graphs with the maximum weighted number of spanning trees. Characterizing graphs with the maximum number of spanning trees is an open problem in general. To tackle this problem, several new theoretical results are established in this paper, including the monotone log-su...

New Adaptive UKF Algorithm to Improve the Accuracy of SLAM

SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) is a fundamental problem when an autonomous mobile robot explores an unknown environment by constructing/updating the environment map and localizing itself in this built map. The all-important problem of SLAM is revisited in this paper and a solution based on Adaptive Unscented Kalman Filter (AUKF) is presented. We will explain the detailed algorithm...

Human-in-the-Loop SLAM

Building large-scale, globally consistent maps is a challenging problem, made more difficult in environments with limited access, sparse features, or when using data collected by novice users. For such scenarios, where state-of-the-art mapping algorithms produce globally inconsistent maps, we introduce a systematic approach to incorporating sparse human corrections, which we term Human-in-the-L...
